I have been an avid baker since the age of 8 when I became known for my chocolate-chip cookies (the trick was to add more vanilla
).
While I adore baking, cooking is difficult for me. I have the worse time getting several dishes on the table at once while still hot.
I'm known for my brownies most of all, and the dishes I'm best at are burritos and Dijon Chicken. I am always the dessert person at family gatherings and events, but I'm working on making a name for myself outside the world of sweets.
I think that once I get more practice in cooking I will gain confidence and perhaps be able to come up with a few recipes on my own!
Fortunately, my fiance is easy to impress. But he will over-praise even the worst dishes I make. Like burnt, rubbery pork chops, which he ate tons of just to make me feel better. (He refuses to throw away the leftovers, though neither of us ever wants them.) Thus I am getting plenty of practice at becoming a human lie-detector.
I grew up in New Mexico, so spicy dishes are my comfort food. I especially love green chile.
I do need to incorporate more vegetables into my diet. They tend to go bad before I remember to use them. I like my fruits and vegetables raw, so I am always looking for a good salad recipe.
I am fascinated with medditeranean cuisine, but I tend to rely on the familiar sorts of food I grew up with; like meatloaf, casseroles, high-carb, high animal-protein foods. I'm actually pretty sick of red meat... I think I was over-loaded with it as a child, and suffered as a teenager living with a fanatical atkins diet father.
