about me

I was born in a small war torn village in Siberia in 1728 while my father drank Vodka and my mother loudly cursed my fathers every sexual impulse...wait maybe that was a different lifetime.
Hmmm, maybe this is the lifetime where I am Joan of Arc? No, i'm scared of fire and I don't speak French... though I DO love French fries, does that count?
How 'bout the one where I am a Samurai...no, let's not. I always crave Sushi and tend to start brandishing butter knives at people when I think about that one.
Fineeee...sighhhh, I'll get to the boring realities of this lifetime.

I'm a mom of six kids ranging from 22 down to 2 months p;d as well as three adorable grandchildren AND a few adopted kids online. I live in a small city in Kentucky though I am originally from the South Side of Chicago. I live with some of my kids, two psychotic cats and my wonderful fiance Russell whom I met online and immediately fell madly in love with. He is also a displaced Chicago native.

Using Zaars question about what would I do with a month off, I'd have to say sleep ...nonstop...just feed me chocolate intravenously and wake me when the month was over. My pet peeves are people with a lack of manners and old fashioned common courtesy, people who have no idea what the turn signal is for in their car & as I have a disabled son, those who stereotype the disabled.
I am a freelance writer and researcher by trade and sometimes do teen online counseling on the side...I know, weird combo but I'm a fairly weird person. I am also planning on going back to school to get a Nursing degree.
For fun, I am an avid game player with current addictions to Mah-Jong and Mozaki Blocks of all things (it's a competing with myself thing...have to do better ever time. My perfectionist tendencies are rather annoying). I'm also a music fanatic who spends way more time than is healthy looking for new music. I also have an online journal I write in that has blessed me with an adopted brother and a few pretty good friends (as well as the man I love). Plus of course, a window or two from Zaar tends to be open at any given time even if I can't get to it right away. I feel blessed also to have "met" some awesome people here too. This is NOT just a recipe site.

Thats Russell and I; ignore that I look like crap please?

Favorite Foods:

Favorite restaurant- With 2 kids still at home, who can afford a restaurant? But if I had to choose it would either be Olive Garden ( I could happily live on their Sangria if my liver would go along with the idea) or Red Lobster as I am a seafood fanatic, or any hole in the wall Indian or Thai place.
The things I make that my family raves about? My homemade spaghetti sauce that is chock full of various meats and veggies, my lasagna (made with aforementioned sauce) and my sticky buns (is it just me or does that sound vaguely obscene? :-P )
When it comes to cooking, I love good old comfort foods though I know peoples ideas of what a comfort food is varies by origin, and I'm always up for trying someone elses favorites.
I tend to be an adventurous cook who enjoys going beyond the comfort level of my family, a fact that horrifies my kids when they come in and ask what's for dinner and I say "I don't know; i'm inventing". For some reason that seems to be the night they decide they aren't hungry... until the aromas get them.
I am a curry fanatic, always looking for new curry recipes I can play with. Also have begun experimenting more with Greek cooking.
Favorite types of cooking (other than Southern American) would be Thai,Indian,Asian and North African. One of my favorite recipes sites (other than Zaar of course...calm down for petes sake!) is www.congocookbook.com It is a great place to go if you want to get started with African cooking.
