about me

I live in southern Alberta and am a paralegal for a mid-sized firm. I have always loved to cook but have been trying to expand my horizons recently, cooking a lot of new dishes and experimenting with my tried and true recipes. As a result I think that I have become a better cook - my boyfriend certainly isn't complaining!

I had severe ulcerative colitis and try to eat healthy, non-processed foods that don't aggravate my condition. However, with my recent surgeries that isn't as much of a concern and all I have to really avoid are shrimp and bean sprouts. For the first time in years I can eat vegetables and have been gorging accordingly!

My two biggest passions would be camping and reading. I can't wait for camping season to start and to finally be healthy enough to go. I also have a boyfriend overly concerned with being provided with food for his belly and two wonderful, spoiled cats named Stew and Hummer.

A note on ratings: I believe that one of the most valuable features on this site, other than the ingredients search, is the ratings system. I rate dishes according to how I honestly felt about them. If I didn't like someone's dish I will give it a one or two star and explain why. I am not out to hurt anyone's feelings (and won't have mine hurt in return) but I don't think that rating a recipe high even when it has inherent problems helps anyone else on the site. Just my take on things, you can take it or leave it.

Favorite Foods:

I love Middle Eastern and Japanese food, although I have not ventured very far into cooking Japanese food - something I would like to remedy in the future. My two favourite restaurants are independently owned Middle Eastern and Japanese restaurants in my hometown. I try to avoid chain restaurants whenever possible to support local business and frankly, the food is always better in the smaller restaurants.

I am famous for my homemade burgers, my three onion dip and my hummus which I am told is a compliment even though, with everything else I can make, I find somewhat insulting. I prefer to cook an elaborate dinner than to bake something easy but every once in awhile when my boyfriend starts whining I will bake something.
