This sauce is ready in no time, and flavors are great! Pour over your favorite pasta! From the kitchen of Mary Ann Esposito, cooking show chef for Ciao Italia.

9 1/2 -10 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
If using fresh tomatoes, core them, cut them into coarse chunks, and puree them in a food processor, blender, or food mill until smooth. Strain the flesh of canned tomatoes through a fine sieve, to remove skins and seeds. Set aside.
  2. 2
Heat the olive oil in a large pot, and cook the onion over a medium heat, stirring, until soft.
  3. 3
Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until it becomes soft. Do not let the garlic brown, or an acid taste will be imparted in the sauce.
  4. 4
Add the remaining ingredients, reduce the heat to low, and simmer until thickened, about 15 minutes.

Perfect blend of flavors for my palate! This sauce is so delicious, I can't wait to serve it to my friends. They are going to enjoy every bite, just like I do! I had with linguine and made meatballs to add to the sauce. Delicious sauce and I can't wait to make it again!

Excellent sauce! Made as directed and everyone raved. I used some leftover Merlot wine and it gave it such a nice flavor. We will use this recipe many times now that I found it! I had it with rigatoni and it was just awesome! Everyone gave it 2 thumbs up at the table tonight! We had Hot Italian Sausage on the side and just poured the sauce over them before eating. Delicious all the way down!

Ma Mia, this is one greata sauce!!! The Italian in me couldn't resist this one from one of my favorite chefs in the world. The simplicity alone for making the sauce deserves 5 stars. The flavors are just right for us using 8 basil leaves. I had Chianti wine so I used that and also I used 1 large onion. I did cut the sugar down to 1 tablespoon, as we don't like ours too sweet. I made this to make a lasagna, and it was excellento! Thanks for sharing!
