Bread Machine Hamburger Buns

Recipe #167002 | 2 hours | 30 min prep | add private note

By: Shelly K
May 5, 2006

I FINALLY figured out how to get the PERFECT hamburger bun! This is tweaked from a few other recipes.

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Add ingredients according to bread machine instructions and set on dough cycle.
  2. 2
When complete, shape into balls and flatten to about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. 3
Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet (or use a silicone mat and skip the grease).
  4. 4
Cover with a damp towel and place in a warm place to rise for about an hour.
  5. 5
Optional: Once they have risen, brush tops with melted butter/margarine or egg wash (1 egg white and 1 tablespoon water).
  6. 6
*important* Place them in a COLD oven. Set to 300 degrees. When the oven indicates that it's up to temperature, turn the oven up to 400 degrees. Set the timer for 15 min and watch closely. It's done in about 10 min in my oven. The buns should be JUST set.

We tried these tonight and ended up making a run to the store. These turned out hard as rocks. Having said that, my bread machine was making funny noises, so I'm going to get a new one and we'll try this again. I'll update then They look wonderful from the photo!

I love this recipe!! I have made it several times and they always come out great. I usually divide the dough and make hot dog/sandwich buns too. As soon as they cool I place them in a plastic freezer bag and freeze them and use them as needed. Its great to pull out a frozen sandwich roll in the morning and have a perfectly fresh roll ready for me at lunch time much better then those store bought rolls. Great recipe! Thank You!
