This is a delicious, grilled bread!

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Dough

Glaze

Directions

  1. 1
To make the dough, combine all the dough ingredients except the water in a food processor and process for 30 seconds.
  2. 2
(or whiz in a blender.) With the machine running, gradually add the water in a thin stream through the feeder tube.
  3. 3
Pulse on and off until the dough forms a soft ball.
  4. 4
Transfer the dough to a floured board.
  5. 5
Knead for 5 minutes by hand, sprinkling with flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  6. 6
The dough should be very soft and pliable.
  7. 7
    Lightly flour a plastic bag.
  8. 8
Place the dough in the bag, seal it, and let it sit 15 to 20 minutes in a warm, dark place.
  9. 9
    Prepare your grill.
  10. 10
Keep it covered to build an intense heat.
  11. 11
Combine the glaze ingredients and reserve.
  12. 12
Remove the dough from the bag and cut it into 6 equal pieces.
  13. 13
On a floured board, roll each piece into a circle as thin as a flour tortilla and about 8 inches in diameter.
  14. 14
(The circle need not be perfect, and a few holes are just fine).
  15. 15
As each piece is rolled, brush it lightly with the glaze and place it glazed-side down onto the grill.
  16. 16
When all of the dough has been placed on the grill, cover the grill and bake for 5 minutes, then brush the tops with the glaze, flip, and brown the other side.
  17. 17
There should be bubbles and brown patches on both sides when the bread is done.
  18. 18
    Enjoy!

Very, very good. Mine took less than 5 minutes per side and burned a bit, and next time I will make them thinner, but overall this is a great recipe which will have many variations this summer.

These are delicious! I love the fresh taste of homemade bread, and this is no exception. The cumin is great in this. This was a lot like making pizza dough — it was easier to stretch than roll these since the dough is pretty sticky. I made mine probably a little too thin, as cooking them 1.5 minutes/side was plenty. I will try to make them thicker next time. I would suggest starting with one on the grill and experimenting with the time, they are very easy to burn. I served these with a vegetable curry. These look and taste like real nan, and are way better than the kind you get in a restaurant!

This was delish! I had fun making this. It did grill in less then 5 minutes for both sides so watch not to burn them. What I did was an East meets West meal. First for the dough the only changes I did was used My Rosemary oil #74729 in place of the corn oil and I used instant roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Well! What I made with the Nan was BBT`s Yes delish BBT`s Bacon, Basil and Tomtaoes!. These are very easy and would be fun for guests to get into helping make thier own. I can`t believe this has been here for 2 years and no reviews. This is a must try! Thanks Sharon for posting this delish bread!

Oh so good! Used this as a wrap for sauteed chicken. We made this in a cast iron skillet for 4 min. on the first side and about 2 minutes on the second side. Keeps well in the frig. Thank you!
